What plays in Vegas, closes in Vegas?
Close on the heels of a premature closing for Tony-winning Avenue Q, the producers of Tony-winning Hairspray recently announced it too will close early, next week.
So, is it the lure of the slots? The lure of the nudie revues? The lure of Celine Dion and Cirque du Soleil that keeps audiences away?
Could it be that by dumbing down (and really, how do you dumb down Hairspray!!??) these musicals, cutting stuff and making them run an intermissionless 90 minutes they're understimating their audiences and short-changing them...and people don't want to pay for that?
